Rt. Rev. Devadass Ambrose Mariadoss [1]was born on 6th October 1947 in Ammapet, Thanjavur District.[2] He was ordained a priest on 5th August 1974. He was appointed as Roman Catholic Bishop of Thanjavur on 24th September 1997. He served nearly 33 years as Bishop of Thanjavur.

Early Life

Devadoss Ambrose was son of Mariadoss and Ranjitham , in good and pious Catholic family of Ammapet of Thanjavur 6th October 1947. He finished his basic education at Appavu Thevar High School at Ukkadai. He joined Pre-University Course at Sri Pushpam College, Poondi for higher studies.

Priesthood

On 1964, Devadoss Ambrose was joined in the St.Mary's Minor Seminary, Thanjavur. On 1967, he received his priestly at St. Paul's Seminary, Trichy. On 5th August 1974, he was ordained as priest by Rt. Rev. Bishop Arokiasamy Sundaram, the first Bishop of Thanjavur.

After the ordination, he was appointed as the assistant parish priest of Nagapattinam. His dedicated services to the people especially during the times of severe cyclone will be gratefully remembered even today. In 1979, he joined the staff at St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore. He became the professor of Sacred Scripture at St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary. The Scripture department is a prestigious department having the world renowned scholars such as Fr. Lucian Legrand. From 1980 to 1984, He received his higher education in Biblical Institute, Rome. From 1991 to 1994, he received his received his higher education in Catholic University, Paris. He received a Diploma in Biblical Studies at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

Bishop of Thanjavur

On 24th September 1997, Rt.Rev.Msgr.M. Devadoss Ambrose becomes Bishop of Thanjavur for Diocese of Thanjavur.
